Products Description
Cobalt Chromium PFM Crown and Full Zirconia Crown
Cobalt-Chromium PFM Crown: Combines a robust cobalt-chromium alloy base (excellent load resistance) with layered porcelain. Engineered for posterior teeth, it balances chewing durability and natural tooth color. The metal core minimizes porcelain chipping. Ideal for patients with moderate-heavy occlusal force (e.g., bruxism) and those needing cost-effective posterior restoration.
Full Zirconia Crowns: Crafted from monolithic zirconia, featuring enamel-like translucency. Metal-free, hypoallergenic, and fracture-resistant, it eliminates dark gum lines. Suitable for anterior/posterior teeth, perfect for aesthetic-focused cases and metal-allergic patients. Widely used in implant-supported restorations for biocompatibility and stability.

FAQ
For patients with bruxism, is Cobalt-Chromium PFM Crown or Full Zirconia Crown more suitable?
For patients with bruxism (chronic teeth grinding/clenching that generates excessive occlusal force), Full Zirconia Crown is generally more suitable than Cobalt-Chromium PFM Crown, and here is the detailed reason:
Superior fracture resistanceMonolithic zirconia has extremely high flexural strength and wear resistance. It can withstand the repeated strong impact of bruxism without chipping or cracking easily. By contrast, the porcelain layer of Cobalt-Chromium PFM Crown is relatively brittle; under long-term heavy occlusal force, it is prone to porcelain chipping or peeling off from the metal base.
Uniform material structureFull Zirconia Crown is milled from a single block of zirconia, with consistent internal structure and stress distribution, which can disperse the grinding force evenly. The PFM crown is a composite structure of metal and porcelain. The difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the two materials may lead to micro-cracks in the porcelain layer under long-term cyclic force.
Note: For severe bruxism patients, in addition to choosing full zirconia crowns, it is also recommended to match them with occlusal splints to reduce the direct force on the restorations and prolong their service life.
